Barcelona manager Hansi Flick expressed his frustration with his players after their 3-0 victory over Mallorca on Saturday, insisting the performance was below his expectations.
The defending La Liga champions opened their campaign with an early 2-0 lead before Mallorca were reduced to nine men following two quick red cards in the first half. Despite the numerical advantage, Barca only managed to add one more goal, with teenager Lamine Yamal scoring in stoppage time.
Speaking after the match, Flick criticised his team’s lack of intensity, arguing that they eased off instead of capitalising on their dominance.
“I didn’t like the match,” Flick admitted. “These are three important points, but after going 2-0 up, and with the two red cards, I think my team played at 50 per cent. That can’t happen. I need to talk to the players about this. You can’t play at 50 per cent against nine players, that’s not what I expect.”
The German coach made it clear that he considers such complacency unacceptable, warning his players that they must maintain focus and professionalism regardless of the circumstances.
