Borno, army to construct roads in Sambisa

The Borno State Government on Friday indicated interest to work with the Nigerian army to construct roads into Sambisa Forest.

The army, which had announced its intention to make use of the vast area of land that was the headquarters of the Boko Haram insurgents, had equally promised to construct roads in Sambisa Forest.

Addressing a press conference on the achievements of the Borno State Ministry of Works and Transportation, the commissioner in charge of the ministry, Alhaji Adamu Lawan, said the state government was ready to work with the army to open up the forest by constructing roads on the land.

He said the state government was equally ready to restart the construction of roads leading to areas that were previously occupied by the insurgents.

He noted that work had already started on some of the roads that had their reconstruction and rehabilitation suspended at the peak of the crisis, and that with the recapture of Sambisa Forest, work on the other roads would begin.
