BREAKING…….Kwara to spend N9.5bn on 78 km street-light, others

The Kwara State Government on Friday said it will spend the total sum of N6.7billion on street light project to cover 78km roads in the Ilorin metropolis.

It added that the sum of N2.8 billion will also be expended on the construction of the Ilesha-Baruba and Osi campuses of the Kwara State University respectively.

These, among others were the resolutions of the state government at the Executive Council meeting held on Thursday. ROYAL NEWS gathered that the meeting which lasted for a period of nine hours was the longest so far in the anal of the current administration.

However, speaking with journalists at a briefing, the Commissioner for Energy in the State, Engr Idris Abubakar, disclosed that the project which is tagged: “Light Up Kwara” will be executed under Public Private Partnership programme will cover the period of 10 years before being handed over to the State Government through the ministry of Energy .

He noted that all dual carriage roads have been enlisted to be provided with functioning street lights adding that the total cost estimate will take care of the execution and periodic maintenance of the facilities which is expected to be providing light for road users at all times especially at night.

The Commissioner further maintained that while the first Phase of the project is expected to cover the Ilorin metropolis, the second phase will cover Offa, Omu-Aran, Moro and Edu local government areas of the state after been ascertained of the workability and efficiency.

On education, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Engr. Musa Yeketi, disclosed that the state government has uncovered 971 illegal teachers out of the total number of 1420 personnel engaged through the State Teaching Service Commission.

He added that five Principal Officers have been fingered in the illegal deal stressing that two out of them have retired from active service while the remaining three officers are currently under interrogation.

While speaking on the fate of the affected workers, Engr. Yeketi further that they will be regularized and co-opted into the service of the state government subject to verification and consideration.
