The British Council has approved Osun State University (UNIOSUN) as an accredited Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre for its international examinations, including the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
The university’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ademola Adesoji, confirmed the development in a statement on Thursday, noting that the first international exam will take place on Saturday, August 2, at the university’s CBT centre on the main campus in Osogbo.
“With this milestone, UNIOSUN joins a select group of globally recognised institutions authorised to administer international standardised assessments,” Adesoji stated. “It brings such services closer to thousands of candidates in Osun and surrounding states.”
Vice-Chancellor Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye described the accreditation as a significant step toward enhancing the university’s global standing.
“This is a defining moment for Osun State University,” said Adebooye. “Becoming the first British Council examination centre in Osun is a major stride in our goal to internationalise our academic services and open direct access to global opportunities.”
He added that the British Council’s endorsement reflects the quality of UNIOSUN’s infrastructure, staff, and credibility. The university’s CBT centre is equipped with high-speed internet, biometric verification systems, uninterrupted power supply, and advanced surveillance, ensuring a secure and efficient testing environment.
“This facility will spare candidates the burden of travelling to Lagos, Ibadan, or Abuja for British Council exams,” the Vice-Chancellor said. “It will save time, money, and effort while promoting academic excellence in our region.”
