Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has claimed that former President Muhammadu Buhari died of leukemia, a type of blood cancer. Sowore made the claim in a Facebook post on Sunday, July 13, 2025, shortly after the former leader’s death was officially announced.
“Buhari died of (BLOOD CANCER) Leukemia,” Sowore wrote, without citing any medical sources or offering further evidence to support the statement.
While Buhari’s family and close associates have not disclosed the official cause of death, his former spokesperson, Garba Shehu, confirmed that the former president passed away in a London clinic after receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness.
Sowore’s remarks have reignited public debate over Buhari’s long-rumored health issues, which were frequently the subject of speculation during his presidency. Throughout his tenure, Buhari made repeated medical trips to the United Kingdom, often triggering concerns about transparency and accountability regarding his health.
