A viral closed-circuit television (CCTV) video has sparked widespread outrage after it appeared to show Nollywood actress Peggy Ovire assaulting fellow actor Taye Arimoro at a movie location.
Arimoro had earlier accused Ovire of detaining and physically attacking him during a film shoot on Tuesday night. In a series of Instagram posts on Wednesday, he alleged that the actress forced him to stay beyond their agreed filming hours and ordered her crew to block his vehicle when he tried to leave around midnight.
According to the actor, Ovire instructed her team and driver to “beat him up” after he insisted on going home to rest.
In her initial response, the actress denied the allegations, claiming instead that Arimoro had assaulted her driver during the confrontation.
However, CCTV footage released online on Thursday appeared to contradict her account, showing Ovire and her driver attacking Arimoro in the presence of other crew members.
The video quickly gained traction on social media, prompting heavy criticism of the actress. Many Nigerians accused her of lying and abusing her position on set.
User @Linda_ify1 wrote, “Imagine a married woman treating someone’s son like that. I wonder how she treats her husband at home.”
Another user, @Olisa_Mani, commented, “So she was the aggressor? Pushing him while her boys deflated his tyres? I hope the movie they were harassing him for is even worth it.”
Others called for accountability, with @buzzard737 saying, “Why did she instruct her team to deflate his tyres? The estate security should have stepped in from the start. This is unacceptable.”
As of Thursday evening, neither Peggy Ovire nor her management had issued an updated statement following the release of the CCTV footage.
