Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Adekunle Gold has been immortalised in his hometown, with a street in Lagos officially named in his honour.

The 38-year-old singer, whose real name is Adekunle Almoruf Kosoko, shared the emotional moment with fans via Instagram, posting a video of the unveiling ceremony attended by his wife, Simi, and their daughter, Deja.

In the heartwarming clip, the family could be seen pulling back a veil to reveal the new street sign that proudly reads “Adekunle Kosoko Street.”

Expressing gratitude for the recognition, the “Sade” crooner wrote:

“Adekunle Kosoko Street. The city that raised me now carries my name. Thank you, Lord, for my many blessings.”

The honour holds deep personal significance for Adekunle Gold, whose heritage is deeply rooted in Lagos history. He hails from the Kosoko royal family of Lagos Island, tracing his lineage to Oba Kosoko, the former King of Lagos who reigned from 1845 to 1851.

Over the years, Adekunle Gold has evolved from a highlife-inspired singer to a globally acclaimed Afropop artist, earning multiple awards and international recognition for his artistry and consistency.

The street naming stands as both a symbol of pride and legacy, cementing the singer’s impact on music, culture, and the community that shaped him.
