Constitution Amendment: Lawmakers urge women to secure 20% out of 36 States

Majority Leader House of Representatives, Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa has urged the Women agitating for more sit in the legislative arms of Government to secure 20 percent out of the 36 States in the country.

Alhassan made this statement in a brief interview with the journalists yesterday during courtesy visit at his National Assembly office.

Alhassan explained that the only way out is for the women to also get down to the various state houses of assembly lobby, and bodywork it out.

He further said that nothing will fly here no matter the level protest until the 36 state houses of assembly come together and agree.

“So if you have anything now as an obstacle is for women to go down to the 36 State’s and make sure that they secure these 20% that we have given you at the National Assembly.

” Otherwise, they can also kick it out over there, so that’s the only obstacle at the moment” He said.

in addition, Alhassan emphasis that if the women wants to lobby, it should be done in good and appropriate time so that members will really feel Yes, they are indebted to the women counterpart to be able to accommodate them in NASS democracy as practice in the country.

“lucky the earlier! the earlier! the better! for anything. I understand only within last week or two, when some groups of women started coming to the house in the name of lobby about some of these things, I think two weeks, it’s not sufficient for a good lobby.

“So when you want to lobby next time, come in good time and lobby through the right voices” he said.

Meanwhile the senator representing plateau South, Senator Nora Daduut while speaking to journalists concerning the women issue said that women are second role player when it comes to matters of gender.

Nora explained that the issue is a wakeup call for the women, adding that it should be done as a process.

“Women need to look inward, love and support themselves and have one voice before things can move better” She said.
