The Managing Director of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Dr. Peer Lubasch, has said artificial intelligence (AI) is driving a new era of “construction intelligence,” reshaping engineering and project delivery across the industry.
Speaking at the company’s 2025 Luminary Soiree in Lagos, Lubasch noted that Julius Berger and its subsidiaries are already deploying AI tools in laboratories, material testing, and design processes.
“In our laboratories and material testing, AI-driven analytics are improving accuracy, speeding up results, and strengthening quality control,” he said. “At PrimeTech, our design and engineering subsidiary, we use generative design, collaborative platforms, and automated clash detection to shorten planning cycles. We are aiming to integrate AI into every stage of design to deliver projects faster and with greater precision.”
Lubasch added that Julius Berger is evolving into a data-driven, intelligent construction enterprise. He cited applications such as predictive maintenance, adaptive scheduling, real-time safety monitoring, cost estimation, smart dashboards, and contract support as areas where AI is enhancing efficiency and safety.
At the event, Google executive Ugochi Agoreyo described AI as a “smart revolution” that augments human creativity and decision-making rather than replacing it. She said AI technologies are transforming sectors from healthcare and finance to governance and construction.
“In Africa, particularly Nigeria, with its fast-growing economy and youthful population, AI offers significant opportunities,” Agoreyo noted, stressing the importance of balancing innovation with challenges such as infrastructure and skills development.
Architect Jurgen Willen of offshore firm Willen Associates also highlighted AI’s value in architecture, interior design, and urban planning. “Our approach is to look far into the future for every project and incorporate the latest products and possibilities,” he said
