C’River governor, Bassey Otu commisserates with ex-Lawmaker, Jake Otu-Enyia over wife’s demise

Cross River State Governor Senator Bassey Otu has commiserated with a former member of the Cross River State house of assembly member, Rt Hon. Jake Otu Enya, over the death of his wife, praying that God give the family the fortitude to bear the loss.

Otu who paid the condolence visit to the former lawmaker at his Calabar residence and accompanied by his Chief of Staff, Emmanuel Ironbar, thursday evening, expressed shock over the death of late Christiana Otu Enyia, maintaining that even though she died as a young woman, she left behind an indelible mark, that cannot be forgotten.

The Governor after a minute silence in honour of the deceased, said losing a loved one, especially a wife, mother and caregiver, could be emotionally traumatizing, praying to God to strengthen them, according to a statement issued on Friday by Edem Darlington, the Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the Governor.

” I came here onbehalf of the Government and People of Cross River State to condole with my colleague who was a former member of Parliament, Rt Hon Jake Otu Enyia over his wife’s death, Christiana.

“It is very unfortunate that this has occurred, we love her but God loves her more. May the gentle soul of your beautiful wife rest in peace” he prayed.

In his response, husband of the deceased, Rt. Hon. Jake Otu Enyia, flanked by a family member, Anne Ugbo, appreciated the Governor for finding time to be with him and the family, despite his busy schedule.

Enyia who described Otu, as the people’s Governor, said ⁶his family, village and the entire boki nation will not forget the gesture, being the first person to be so visited as an elective Governor of Cross River State.

“Your Excellency, i appreciate your coming to my house to condole with me and my family, we are very grateful, and the entire boki nation appreciate this generosity and show of love.

“I pray to God Almighty to guide and give you all that is required to provide the ‘season of sweetnes’ to the good people of Cross River State”

High point of the visit was the signing of the condolence register by the state governor

Christiana Jake Otu Enyia, died recently after a brief illness at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, aged 49.
