Ekiti SUBEB boss warns contractors to abide by project specifications

The Executive Chairman, Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Prof. Femi Akinwumi, has warned contractors handling projects with history of abandoned projects in the state would not be considered for contract awards.

Prof. Akinwumi, stated that the board recently revoked contracts awarded to six contractors for failure to adhered to project stipulations.

The SUBEB boss made the remarks in Ado-Ekiti during the opening of tenders for the 2020 and 2021 UBEC/SUBEB Intervention Projects, said that there would be strict compliance with guideline of the UBEC and provisions of the state procurement Act in the award of contracts.

Prof. Akinwumi said: “the Board would award contracts for the forthcoming 2020 and 2021 UBEC/SUBEB Intervention Projects in the state to only qualified and competent bidders.

He charged successful contractors to stringently abide by projects specifications and timeline, warning that failure to do so would lead to serious penalties which may include being blacklisted and made to refund funds collected.

The SUBEB boss said the huge investment of the Fayemi Administration in the basic education section in the State is already making a massive impact on infrastructure and the quality of teaching in the public primary schools in the state which had greatly improved in the last three years

He noted that construction work was in top gear at the 36-Classroom Harding Model College flagged off last October by Governor Kayode Fayemi while work had already commenced at the Model Colleges in Ikere and Odo-Oro.

In his remarks, the Director General of the Bureau of Special Projects, Architect Tope Ogunleye urged the contractors to reciprocate government’s gesture by giving value for money on the contracts that will be awarded to them.

He expressed pleasure that various teams monitoring ongoing UBEC/SUBEB intervention projects in the state had reported a remarkable improvement on the quality of jobs executed under the programme.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Board, Mr. Oluwadare Ajayi had itemized contracts to be awarded to include construction blocks of classrooms, dormitories and perimeter fencing of public Schools as well as construction of V.I.P. Toilets with Deep Well, Overhead Tank and Generators.

Others include: Renovation of Classrooms Blocks, Drilling of Boreholes, Procurement of Teachers and pupils as well as Children Swings and Merry-Go-Rounds.
