Emir Sulu-Gambari mourns late H.O. Davies widow, Madam Augusta Olujoke

The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, Mai-Martaba Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari CFR, has mourned the passing of Madam Augusta Olujoke Davies who died on Saturday 11th May 2024.

This is contained in a condolence message issued on Friday by the Emir’s spokesman, Mallam Abdulazeez Arowona.

ROYAL NEWS reports that the deceased was until her demise the widow of Chief Hezekiah Oladipo Davies Q.C., a leading Nigerian nationalist, founding father, lawyer, journalist and trade unionist.

The Emir recalled his relationship with the Davies family as an employee with H.O. Davies & Co during his early years of legal practice as a lawyer.

While eulogising the virtues of late Madam Augusta, Alhaji Sulu-Gambari acknowledged her support to late Chief H.O. Davies to become a very successful lawyer, being one of the first two Nigerians along with Chief Frederick Rotimi Williams that were honoured with the distinction of Queen’s Counsel in 1959.

“He also led a Nigerian delegation to the Economic Council at the United Nations in 1964, and in September 1974, Chief H.O. Davies was knighted by the French Government as Chevelier de l’ Ordre national du MĂ©rite for promoting French-Nigeria relations and for his significant contributions in energising Total Fina Oil and Elf Petroleum, companies of which he was a director.”

“Late Madam Augusta Olujoke Davies was indeed a strong advocate for the less privileged and humanity at large”, Alhaji Sulu-Gambari added.

The Emir sent his condolences to the entire Davies family over the loss which he described as inevitable even as he urged them to find solace in the fact that the deceased lived a worthy life filled with lofty accomplishments and remarkable testimonies.
