Some Nigerians in Italy have praised the Federal Government for its prompt intervention in their request for passport availability as the Nigerian Mission in Italy launches consular services in all regions of the country.

They expressed their joy and thanks to the federal government in a video message made available to the Nigerian News Agency on Thursday, in Abuja.

informs that this comes in the phase of the ongoing consular intervention visits mission to five Italian cities; Napoli, Ferrara, Padova, Udine and Como from January 15 to 31.

The intervention comes after the appeal of the National Association of some Nigerian Trade Unions in Italy (NUNAI) to the Federal Government in November 2021.

Miss Faith John, a Nigerian living in the city of Ferrara, thanked the Nigerian government for listening to her call and responding promptly.

John said he appreciated the exercise more as the consular intervention went beyond the capital city of Rome to other cities, which made the process much easier for applicants.

“This exercise is really amazing, it is the first time I have this experience, I have been in this city for a long time.

“This is the first time I have seen the Nigerian Embassy in Ferrara, they are doing very well and I really appreciate this, not only for coming to Rome,” said John.

Furthermore, Odiase Osaro, a Nigerian who has lived in Italy for more than four years, said it was the first time he had received such a quick response from the government.

Osaro said that Nigerians in Italy have been enjoying quick responses to their problems and complaints since the tenure of the current NUNAI executive director and the new ambassador, Omini Abam.

“I am surprised, I did not expect something like this and I really want to thank the Nigerian Association.

“I will say the stay is the most effective since I’ve been here, I’ve been here for only four years to five years and I’ve never seen anything like this,” Osaro said.

The President of the Nigerian Association of Ferrara, Ms. Evelyn Aghom, thanked the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service, the Ministers of the Interior and Foreign Affairs and the Nigerian Ambassador to Italy for their intervention.

Aghom said that the consular intervention exercise had gone very well since its beginning and that there was a massive turnout of Nigerians who expressed their joy and gratitude to their government.

“We want to thank the president of NUNAI and the Nigerian embassy here in Italy, Rome.

“When they requested this service, the Comptroller General was very quick to respond and today we are benefiting,” said Aghom.

In Padua, another city where the exercise is taking place, Mr. Mike Oputteh, NUNAI Welfare Officer, also thanked the Federal Government for responding to his challenges and for making the exercise a reality.
