A devastating fire on Tuesday destroyed a petrol station, a fuel tanker and a motorcycle at the Ofiki area of Saki, Oyo State, the state Fire Services Agency has confirmed.
The Chairman of the agency, Mr Moroof Akinwande, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Ibadan. He said the incident involved the RSK Adebowale Multipurpose Filling Station.
According to Akinwande, the agency received a distress call from Alhaji Mufutau Badmus, the Saki Branch Chairman of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, prompting the immediate deployment of firefighters led by Mr Kolade Taiwo.
He explained that upon arrival, firefighters found the filling station engulfed in flames, along with a DAF tanker loaded with 50,000 litres of petrol, a Bajaj motorcycle, and three fuel dispensing pumps.
Akinwande added that fire service personnel were able to extinguish the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby properties, averting further damage in the area.
