Flood Alert Issued for Seven Nigerian States

Date:

The Federal Ministry of Environment’s National Flood Early Warning Centre (FEW Centre) has issued a fresh flood warning, extending its earlier prediction of September 29, 2025.

A circular signed by the ministry’s Director of Erosion, Flood, and Coastal Zone Management Department, Usman Abdullahi Bokani, identified states and communities at risk of heavy rainfall and potential flooding from October 1 to 3, 2025.

The states listed are Adamawa, Kebbi, Bauchi, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kaduna, and Niger. Kebbi State has the highest number of locations on alert, including Argungu, Bagudu, Ganri-Banza, Gwandu, Jega, Kalgo, Kamba, Kangiwa, and Birnin Kebbi. Kaduna, with the fewest locations at risk, highlighted Jaji and Zaria, while Niger noted Magama and Sarkin-Pawa. Prominent towns at risk include Mubi, Birnin Kebbi, Sokoto, Gusau, Azare, and Jega.

Bokani urged stakeholders and state representatives on the FEW Centre platform to provide feedback on local developments. He also advised residents living along waterways to take precautionary measures or evacuate flood-prone areas to minimize the risk of disaster.
