A chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Buba Galadima, has declared that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) cannot deliver a free and fair election under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Galadima accused the ruling government of prioritizing politicking over governance, despite being only two years into its tenure.
He lamented that unlike in the past when INEC would caution politicians against overheating the polity, the electoral body has now lost its courage and independence.
“Look at what is happening. Politicking is everywhere, yet INEC doesn’t even have the muscle or the guts to call politicians to order, because those in government are the ones who started it. So, how do you expect free and fair elections under these people?” Galadima asked.
He further argued that if INEC cannot stop politicians from “jumping the gun,” there is little hope that the commission can muster the “liver” to conduct a credible election.
“That is why some of us are quiet for now. But when the time comes, the world will know we are here,” he warned.
