At least five people were killed and four others injured in a reprisal attack by bandits in Zamfara State, authorities have reported.
The incident was highlighted on X by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region, who provided details of the attack and its unfolding.
According to Makama, the violence began when a local resident was sent by a bandit kingpin to collect a phone battery but was attacked, and the battery was seized.
Suspecting foul play, the kingpin allegedly shot and killed the resident, prompting the local community to retaliate and kill the kingpin.
Following this, armed bandits launched reprisal attacks that resulted in five confirmed deaths and injuries to four others. The engagement occurred in a densely populated rural area, raising fears of further escalation.
