Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on Friday hosted a special reception in honour of Kwara athletes who distinguished themselves at the last National Sports Festival, OGUN 2024, held in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Speaking at the colourful event held at the Banquet Hall in Ilorin, the governor announced cash rewards for medal-winning athletes as a mark of appreciation for their outstanding performances.
The reward structure includes:
N1 million for each gold medalist
N500,000 for silver medalists
N300,000 for bronze medalists
Team Kwara finished 14th on the overall medals table, winning a total of 29 medals—6 gold, 11 silver, and 12 bronze.
In addition to celebrating the current generation of athletes, Governor AbdulRazaq also took a historic step by approving the payment of outstanding entitlements to former Kwara United Football Club players.
