Gov Ahmed assures Corps members of adequate security, safety

Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed has assured Corps members serving in the state of adequate security of their lives and property wherever they were in the state.

Ahmed gave the assurance on Tuesday while closing the 2017 Batch ‘A’ Stream II orientation course at the NYSC permanent Orientation Camp, Yikpata, Edu local government.

It may be recalled that 1, 906 corps members took part in the three weeks orientation course.

The Governor, who was represented by the Head of Service (HOS), Hajia Sara Umar added that his government will not compromise the safety and security of Corps members deploy to the state.

“Concrete measures have been put in place with a view to providing you with security in all parts of the state.

“I encourage you to feel at home as you remain committed to the growth of our state.

“In line with that, I wish to use this medium to call on all our security agencies and traditional rulers to ensure that corps members are given adequate security in their various places of primary assignment.

“Government will not hesitate to whip the big stick in any area found wanting as far as security of corps members is concerned in the state,” Gov Ahmed said.

He charged the corps members to exhibit maximum discipline, dedication and loyalty in their places of primary assignment.

“I urge you to be humble, polite and diligent as you discharge your duties throughout this one year of selfless service to your fatherland,” the Governor said.

In her address, state Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs Esther Atamenwan implored corps employers to make the welfare and productivity of their corps members paramount.

She warned that NYSC will not hesitate to repost any corps members found to be maltreated or under-utilised.

“I also implore corps members to accept their postings in good faith and not to induce their rejection for whatever reasons, as failure to comply will attract strict sanction,” the Coordinator added.

Atamenwan advised the corps members to settle down in their respective places of primary assignments and contribute to the growth and development of their host communities.

“It is highly imperative that you endeavour to be security conscious at all times, study your environment properly and stay away from trouble spots.

“Never embark on unauthorised journeys outside the state as it may attract sanctions apart from other associated risks,” the coordinator added.
