Armed men have attacked the Byazhin-Across community in Kubwa, a satellite town in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, killing a vigilante officer and abducting several residents.
The attack reportedly occurred around 11 p.m. on Monday in the Paze area of the community when the assailants stormed the neighbourhood, firing gunshots that caused panic among residents before carrying out the abductions.
During the incident, the vigilante officer identified as Sylvester was shot dead after stepping out of a compound where he had been sitting with other residents when the gunmen arrived.
Several residents were abducted in the attack. Among them were four children of a pastor, the wife of a vigilante and her sister, while a one-month-old baby was left behind.
Another woman and a security personnel were also reportedly taken away by the attackers during the raid.
Two days after the incident, suspected kidnappers struck again in the same Byazhin-Across community, this time around the Orange Farm area, where several houses were reportedly broken into and more residents abducted.
The repeated attacks have heightened fear among residents of the community in Kubwa, which had previously been regarded as relatively peaceful.
Residents say the incidents have increased concerns over the growing cases of kidnapping and insecurity in parts of the Federal Capital Territory.
