Halima Abubakar Reinstated as AGN Lifts Suspension

Date:

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has lifted the suspension of Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar, restoring her eligibility to participate in guild activities and film projects. The announcement was made during the inauguration of the guild’s new National Executive Council (NEC) at the AGN national secretariat in Abuja.

Abubakar had been under an indefinite suspension since October 2024 over allegations of defaming fellow actors and notable Nigerians. A two-year investigation by a guild-appointed panel initially confirmed her culpability, resulting in her temporary exclusion from all AGN programs.

Outgoing AGN National President Emeka Rollas, who made the announcement, explained that the decision to lift the suspension was influenced by the fact that acting remains Abubakar’s main livelihood. He said it would be “wicked” to leave her suspended as he handed over leadership to the new president, Abubakar Yakubu.

Rollas also confirmed that suspensions on four other members—Christopher Igboji, Chidi Concord, Dan Ewerem, and Jeff Okwute of the Enugu State chapter—had been lifted. He emphasized that the action was taken under powers granted by the Board of Trustees and the entire guild.

The inauguration ceremony, attended by actors, filmmakers, and industry stakeholders, also included praise for Rollas’ leadership. Chuks Chyke, chairman of the organizing committee, commended him for bringing stability and inclusiveness to the guild during his tenure.
