Ibadan Set for Olubadan Coronation Under Heavy Security

Date:

The 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja

The Oyo State Police Command has announced extensive security measures ahead of the coronation of Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, scheduled for Friday at the historic Mapo Hall.

Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Osifeso Adewale, speaking on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, said the ceremony represents a landmark cultural and historical occasion expected to attract dignitaries and guests from across Nigeria and abroad.

“In light of the expected turnout, the Command, in collaboration with sister security agencies, has perfected strategies for the execution of extensive security measures,” Adewale said. He explained that the plan includes confidence-building patrols, heightened surveillance, and intelligence-driven stop-and-search operations across the state, with particular focus on Ibadan.

According to him, special attention will be given to entry and exit points, transport hubs, and the Samuel Ladoke Akintola International Airport, while the immediate environs of Mapo Hall will be closely monitored.

The Oyo State government has also announced the closure of key routes around Mapo Hall from 7 a.m. on coronation day, including Beere Junction to Mapo Hall, Born Photo Junction to Oja’ba, and Idi-Arere Junction to Oja’ba. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes to avoid disruptions.

The Command cautioned against public disorder, unauthorised processions, or unlawful gatherings, stressing that any breach of peace will be dealt with decisively. It urged residents to cooperate with security agencies and report suspicious activities via emergency lines 615, 08081768614, 09054133071, and 09061299291.

“The Oyo State Police Command anticipates a successful coronation that not only honors tradition but also highlights Ibadan’s rich cultural heritage,” Adewale added.
