Former All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and security analyst, Dr. Jackson Lekan Ojo, has alleged that the arrest of Senator Aminu Tambuwal by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was a calculated political move to undermine the African Democratic Congress (ADC)’s growing influence, particularly in the North West.
Tambuwal, a former Sokoto State governor, ex-Speaker of the House of Representatives, and a leading figure in ADC’s coalition structure, was recently taken into EFCC custody over alleged financial improprieties during his tenure as governor.
Ojo described the arrest as a “political vendetta” aimed at reducing Tambuwal’s popularity ahead of the 2027 elections, arguing that similar allegations against APC stalwarts have been ignored. He cited the case of former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, whose EFCC probe ended abruptly after defecting to the ruling party.
“If Tambuwal were still in APC today, would he be investigated or arrested? Nigerians can see this is a desperate attempt to intimidate him into joining the ruling party,” Ojo declared.
He warned that such tactics risk pushing Nigeria toward a one-party state, urging opposition parties to form a united front similar to the coalition that unseated the PDP in 2015.
“This government is oppressive, and the opposition is too quiet. They must unite to rescue Nigerians from worsening insecurity, poverty, and the collapse of social services,” Ojo stressed.
Ojo maintained that the move would backfire, turning Tambuwal into a “people’s hero” and bolstering ADC’s political momentum in the region.
