Indonesia will deport a United Kingdom national arrested in Bali over the weekend after authorities identified him as a wanted suspect in a transnational drug trafficking and money-laundering case, police said Tuesday.

The 45-year-old suspect, identified by police as “SL” but reported by British media as Steven Lyons from Scotland, was arrested on arrival at Ngurah Rai International Airport following a routine immigration system check.

Bali police chief Daniel Adityajaya said the suspect was flagged as the subject of an Interpol red notice and is wanted by authorities in Spain for allegedly leading a large-scale transnational criminal organisation involved in drug trafficking and money laundering.

According to immigration officials, Lyons had arrived on a flight from Singapore before being detained at the airport.

Secretary of Interpol’s Indonesia bureau, Untung Widyatmoko, said the suspect’s network allegedly operated across multiple countries, including Spain, Scotland, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain and Turkey.

Authorities said the suspect is expected to be deported to the United Kingdom on Wednesday, while police continue searching for two associates who reportedly arrived in Bali with him but avoided detection.
