The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the ongoing distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in Anambra State to give more eligible voters the opportunity to collect their cards before the November 8 governorship election.
The commission said the decision followed numerous appeals from citizens and stakeholders requesting additional time for collection.
INEC’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Victoria Eta-Messi, announced the extension in a statement issued on Monday night. She explained that the exercise, which was initially scheduled to end on Sunday, October 26, will now continue from Wednesday, October 29, to Sunday, November 2, 2025.
“The Independent National Electoral Commission has approved the extension of the ongoing collection of Permanent Voter Cards in Anambra State,” the statement read. “The decision was taken after several appeals from citizens and stakeholders requesting more time to enable eligible voters to collect their cards.”
Eta-Messi added that the exercise covers individuals who registered during the recent Continuous Voter Registration in the state.
INEC urged all registered voters who are yet to collect their PVCs to take advantage of the extended period and visit the designated collection centres across the 326 registration areas (wards) in Anambra. The commission also reiterated that collection must be done in person, noting that “no collection by proxy is allowed.”
The electoral body expressed appreciation to residents for their patience and cooperation, urging them to prepare for the upcoming poll.
“INEC appreciates the enthusiasm and cooperation of the good people of Anambra State and encourages all eligible voters to use this opportunity to collect their PVCs and get ready to participate in the governorship election,” Eta-Messi added.
Earlier on Monday, INEC declared Anambra State ready for the November 8 election after a week-long assessment by a delegation from its Abuja headquarters.
The delegation, led by the National Commissioner for Election Planning and Monitoring, Prof. Rhoda Gumus, included National Commissioners Sam Olumekun, Dr. Kenneth Ukeagu, and Dr. Baba Bila. The team inspected logistics, facilities, and security preparations across the state to ensure smooth conduct of the election.
