The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced March 11, 2026, as the official date for the commencement of political campaigns ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in Osun State.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, made this known on Monday while responding to journalists at an expanded stakeholders’ meeting in Osogbo to mark the start of the second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
Agboke said the campaign timetable would be formally communicated to political parties and other stakeholders in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act and INEC guidelines.
“By God’s grace, full campaign activities will commence on March 11, 2026. We will still meet with stakeholders, especially political parties, to brief them appropriately,” he said.
He explained that the commission would roll out detailed campaign protocols to guide political parties throughout the electioneering period, stressing that relevant sections of the Electoral Act would regulate conduct.
The INEC boss underscored the importance of collective responsibility and cooperation among stakeholders to ensure a credible electoral process in the state.
Reflecting on previous engagements, Agboke said collaboration between INEC and stakeholders contributed significantly to the success of the first phase of the CVR exercise.
He noted that the same consultative approach was being adopted for the second phase to consolidate the gains already recorded.
Agboke also disclosed plans to rotate voter registration equipment to communities across the state to improve access for eligible voters.
According to him, stakeholders have agreed to support the initiative and expressed readiness to cooperate to ensure the success of the ongoing registration exercise.
