The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 1,379,342 Nigerians completed the online pre-registration process within the first week of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, conducted between August 18 and 24, 2025.
This was contained in the CVR State Pre-Registration Report released by the commission on Monday.
According to the breakdown, Lagos State recorded 222,205 registrations, accounting for 16.11% of the national total. Osun State emerged as the top-performing state by percentage share, with 393,269 registrants, representing 28.51%, while Ogun followed with 132,823 (9.63%).
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) also recorded a significant turnout with 107,682 registrants (7.81%). Other states with notable figures include Oyo (66,951), Kaduna (61,592), Kogi (58,546), Kwara (33,726), Kebbi (35,009), and Yobe (34,888).
In the South-South, Delta led with 24,421 registrations, followed by Rivers (11,314), Akwa Ibom (12,373), Cross River (4,055), Bayelsa (4,638), Edo (2,875), and Ondo (3,426).
The North-East region also showed participation, with Borno recording 21,045, followed by Bauchi (13,066), Gombe (4,103), Taraba (2,395), and Adamawa (2,155).
In the North-West, Kaduna topped with 61,592, while Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Sokoto, Zamfara, and Kebbi contributed varying numbers.
However, registration in the South-East was notably low. Ebonyi recorded only 261, the lowest nationwide, while Enugu (484), Imo (481), Abia (772), and Anambra posted similarly low figures.
Meanwhile, INEC confirmed that the physical phase of the CVR exercise began today across its 811 centres nationwide, including the 774 Local Government offices. The exercise runs from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Mondays to Fridays, and is open only to Nigerian citizens aged 18 years and above who have never registered before.
The commission added that the process also covers transfers of voter registration, replacement of lost or damaged cards, and updates of personal details. It further assured accessibility for persons with disabilities and vulnerable groups.
INEC urged Nigerians to take advantage of both the online platform (www.cvr.inecnigeria.org) and physical registration to complete their voter registration process.
