The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of candidates contesting the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections scheduled for February 21, 2026.

INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, confirmed this yesterday in Abuja through an official statement.

According to Olumekun, 17 political parties submitted the particulars of their candidates (Form EC9) before the deadline of 6:00 p.m. on Monday, August 11, 2025. He noted that the window for withdrawal and substitution of candidates has since closed.

The commission clarified that no further changes to the candidate list would be permitted, except in cases where a candidate or running mate dies before election day, in line with Section 34(1) of the Electoral Act.

Olumekun recalled that INEC had earlier published the personal details of candidates who emerged from the primaries conducted by political parties on August 18, 2025.

He added that the final list, which includes details such as party affiliation, age, gender, and academic qualifications of all candidates, has been uploaded to INEC’s official website and social media platforms for public access.
