Injury Doubt Hangs Over Onumonu Ahead of Zambia Clash

Date:

Montpellier forward Ifeoma Onumonu is a major doubt for Nigeria’s quarter-final clash against Zambia at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

Reports indicate that the 31-year-old missed the team’s training session on Wednesday due to an undisclosed injury, raising concerns about her availability for the crucial tie.

Onumonu has featured once for the Super Falcons in the tournament, starting in Nigeria’s goalless draw against Algeria last Sunday before being substituted after 54 minutes.

The Super Falcons are set to face Zambia’s Copper Queens on Friday at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca, with a place in the semi-finals at stake.

This will mark the second meeting between Nigeria and Zambia at the WAFCON, with both teams aiming to secure a spot in the final four.

Team officials have yet to confirm the extent of Onumonu’s injury or whether she will be fit in time for the match.

Her absence would be a setback for Nigeria, which has relied on her experience and physical presence in past international competitions.
