Jigawa Government Sacks Contractors Over Ramadan Feeding Programme Vioslation

Date:

The Jigawa State Government has terminated the contracts of several contractors participating in the ongoing Ramadan Feeding (Iftar) Programme over alleged misconduct and failure to meet required standards.

The decision was announced in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Special Duties, Auwal D. Sankara.

According to the commissioner, the initiative was introduced by Governor Umar A. Namadi to support vulnerable residents and ensure that less privileged individuals receive nutritious meals during the holy month of Ramadan.

Sankara explained that the action followed monitoring visits conducted across several local government areas to assess the implementation of the programme.

During the inspections, some contractors were reportedly found to have engaged in acts of negligence, including serving substandard meals, failing to pay cooks their entitlements, mismanaging public funds and, in some instances, skipping scheduled cooking days.

The ministry said the process of replacing the affected contractors with more competent service providers has already begun to ensure the programme continues without disruption.

The government also reassured residents that it remains committed to transparency and quality in the execution of the Ramadan feeding initiative.

Sankara added that the administration would not tolerate actions capable of undermining the programme, stressing that the welfare of the people of Jigawa State remains a top priority.
