Nigerian singer Joeboy has said South African artist Tyla deserved her Grammy win despite the controversy that followed her triumph over several Nigerian stars. Tyla won the Best African Music Performance category at the 2026 Grammy Awards with her hit song “Push 2 Start.”
The win sparked mixed reactions after Tyla beat Nigerian artistes including Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, and Omah Lay, leading to debate among fans and industry observers. Many supporters of the Nigerian nominees argued that one of them should have taken the award.
Speaking in a recent interview with Jay On-Air, Joeboy said he had personally tipped Davido to win the category. However, he stated that Tyla’s victory was deserved and that her talent and hard work could not be disputed.
Joeboy described Tyla as an exceptional artist, stressing that critics cannot take anything away from her achievement. He added that although people may express anger over the outcome, her win was justified.
The singer also revealed that Tyla is one of the artists he hopes to collaborate with in the future, praising her professionalism and work ethic.
