JUST IN…..59 died of cholera in Nasarawa

No fewer than 59 persons in Nasarawa state have died of cholera since the recent outbreak of the disease in the State.

Director of Public Health in the state Ministry of Health, Dr. Ibrahim Adamu disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Lafia, the state capital on Thursday.

He maintained that since the outbreak of cholera in the state about six months ago, a total of 892 cases have been recorded with 59 deaths.

According to him the disease has been recorded in eight Local Government Areas of Doma, Lafia, Wamba, Kokona, Obi, Nasarawa,Toto and Karu, pointing out that most of the communities the disease was recorded practice open defecation and lack portable drinking water.

Alhassan however pointed out that the state government has taken proactive measures to check further spread of the disease by initiating a multi sectoral approach to expand sensitization campaigns and identification of affected communities to provide them with motorized boreholes, among others.
