JUST IN… Airport workers embark on strike on Thursday
Aviation workers are to embark on one-day administrative warning strike nationwide tomorrow, Thursday, after expiration of a week ultimatum issued Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to meet their demands on salary issues.
It was gathered in a letter dated October,7th addressed to FAAN Managing Director, the workers’ unions said the increasing delays and staggering of salary payments has become unbearable for its members and can no longer be tolerated.
According to the letter, the salary issues are full payment of all outstanding salaries, full remittances of all outstanding Co-operatives, pensions, tax, deductions and full payment of all outstanding allowances, grants and claims.
Recalls that the workers’ unions include, National Union of Air Transports Employees (NUATE), Air Transport Services Senior Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) and Association of Nigeria Aviation Professional (ANAP).

The letter was jointly signed by NUATE, General Secretary, Comrade Ocheme Aba, ATSSSAN, Deputy General Secretary, Comrade Frances Akinjole and ANAP Secretary-General, Comrade Abdul Rasaq Saidu.
However, in a notice of warning strike/rally obtained by Solacebase and issued on Wednesday by the three aviation unions dated October,14th, said after deliberation between the unions and management ended in a deadlock, the workers are left with no option rather than embarking on the strike action tomorrow Thursday.
‘’It is a day administrative warning strike that does not affect operations of the airports but workers would not be allowed into offices,’’ said the notice.
According to the notice,’’ All staff in Lagos are to converge at the Freedom Square, while outstations are to replicate same by 7.00am on Thursday.’’
