In a statement issued by his spokesman, Mallam Abdulazeez Arowona, the Emir aligned his decision to the position of the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar.
The announcement was made at the Ilorin Emir’s Palace during the meeting of the Ilorin Emirate Council and the Council of Ulama at the instance of the Emir.
During the meeting, “His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari CFR had telephone conversations with His Eminence, Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abukabar and the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Umar Ibn Garbai Ibn El-Kanemi who further confirmed that new moon was sighted in two local government areas of Borno State.
Present at the meeting were; the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr.) Muhammad Bashir Soliu Al -Fulani OON and othrr members of the Kwara State Council of Ulama, the Balogun Gambari of Ilorin, Balogun Alanamu of Ilorin, Balogun Fulani of Ilorin, Grand Mufti of Ilorin, Sarkin Malami of Ilorin, Makama of Ilorin, and the National President of Ilorin Emirate Youth Development Association (IEYDU) among others.
The Chief Imam prayed that Almighty Allah should grant Muslim Ummah across the world the numerous benefits attached to the Ramadan fasting and besieged Allah to ensure the fulfillment of His promises to to them all.
In his remarks, the Emir thanked the government and people of Kwara State for ensuring that all villages, towns and cities in the state remain peaceful for economic and social activities to thrive.
He however congratulated the entire Muslim Ummah for witnessing the 2025 Ramadan fasting adding that, “Muslims should observed the fasting in line with the commandment of Almighty Allah (SWT) and urged them to imbibe the spirit of extending hearts of charity to the less privileged throughout the glorious month.
The Grand Mufti of Ilorin, Dr. Sulyman Farooq Onikijipa OON therefore spoke to journalists to authenticate the Emir’s position in line with Islamic injunction and prayed for peaceful coexistence in the society.
