JUST IN… Obasa sacked as Lagos Assembly Speaker, Mojisola elected


The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has been impeached.

Hon. Mojisola Meranda representing Apapa I State Constituency has been elected as the new Speaker.

Obasa was removed from office by 32 members of the State House of Assembly following allegations of corruption and financial mismanagement against him.

According to reports, the embattled Speaker was impeached for gross misconduct and abuse of office.

Obasa has been accused of spending N17 billion on a gate to the assembly complex, which critics argue is excessive and fraudulent.
There have also been allegations of mishandling constituency funds and projects.

Obasa who represents Agege State Constituency I in 2007 has been re-elected four times in 2011, 2015 2019 and 2023. He was first elected Speaker in 2015.
