Just In…Senate reschedules screening of ministerial nominees to Wednesday

Senate has rescheduled the screening and possible confirmation of appointments of seven ministerial nominees forwarded to it last week by President Bola Tinubu to Wednesday.

The exercise, earlier fixed for Tuesday, was postponed due to non-completion of documentation by some of the nominees.

According to a statement signed by the Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Senate Matters, Senator Basheer Lado and released on Tuesday, said the postponement was to allow all nominees to conclude all aspects of documentation and pre-screening exercises.

“The scheduled screening of ministerial nominees has been postponed by the Senate. This is to allow all nominees to conclude all aspects of documentation and pre-screening exercise.

“The screening has been rescheduled for Wednesday, October 30, 2024.

“We understand your understanding and patience,” he stated.

Senator Lado had in a statement earlier issued on Monday, confirmed that the ministerial nominees were undergoing documentation ahead of their screening and confirmation by the Senate.

President Tinubu last week reshuffled his cabinet, from which he sacked six ministers and named seven new others while he also swapped the portfolios of 10 other members of the Federal Executive Council, FEC.

The seven ministerial nominees forwarded to the Senate for confirmation by President Bola Tinubu last week include Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction; Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, Minister of Labour and Employment, and Bianca Odinaka Odumegu-Ojukwu, Minister of State, Foreign Affairs.

Others are Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment; Idi Muktar Maiha, Minister of Livestock Development; Rt. Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, Minister of State, Housing, and Dr. Suwaiba Said Ahmad, Minister of State, Education.

The nominees are expected to be screened and confirmed by the Senate in compliance with Section 147 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).
