Kano Governor Meets Tinubu on Security, Projects

Date:

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has explained the purpose of his recent meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, amid widespread speculation over its outcome.

In a statement on Tuesday, the governor’s media adviser, Sunusi Bature, said Yusuf sought the President’s support to accelerate key federal projects in Kano and ensure the state benefits fully from federal programmes and investments.

According to Bature, the governor also briefed President Tinubu on the recent killing of a housewife and her children in Kano, calling for stronger federal backing to enhance security operations and protect civilians.

He said Yusuf highlighted the contributions of the Kano State Neighbourhood Watch Corps in supporting conventional security agencies and urged closer collaboration with federal security institutions to curb insecurity.

The governor also discussed Kano’s development priorities, particularly major infrastructure projects, and thanked the President for the Federal Government’s intervention on the Wujuwuju Road, describing it as vital to economic growth and job creation.

Bature added that President Tinubu assured Yusuf of the Federal Government’s commitment to working with the Kano State Government to address insecurity and promote sustainable development.

Meanwhile, political developments following the visit have fueled speculation about Yusuf’s future party affiliation. Sources told The Nation that the governor has removed New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) flags from strategic locations within Government House.

According to the sources, Yusuf has completed consultations with key stakeholders, including local government chairmen and members of the state House of Assembly, ahead of an anticipated political realignment, though no official announcement has been made.
