The Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, Katsina State council on Wednesday called on the state government to restore the suspended Consolidated Health Salary Structure for its members in the state, maintaining that its suspension had exposed its members to hunger and hardship.

The union also demanded an urgent implementation of the government white paper on the verification exercise on the beneficiaries of CONHESS in the state.

The state government had in May this year suspended the usage of the salary structure for the MHWUN members in the state, following a verification to determine genuine health workers in the 34 local government areas of the state.

MHWUN executives in Katsina under the chairmanship of Hussaini Hamisu, on Wednesday, addressed a press conference, where they stated, “The salary structure approved and implemented in November 2011 is known to have been suspended in May, 2016, precisely seven months ago. This has greatly made a negative impact to the majority of our members in the 34 LGAs who rely solely on their monthly and legitimate salary thereby affecting their daily life and causing serious hardship to them and their families.”
