The Academic Staff Union of the University (ASUU), Kebbi State University of Science and Technology Aliero (KSUSTA) has disclosed that it’s members have not received new minimum wage approved by the Federal and State governments.
Chairman of the Union, Dr. Abubakar B/Yauri U. and the Assistant Secretary, Abubakar Musa A. stated this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi.
According to them, “we are yet to enjoy the new national minimum wage in Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero (KSUSTA).
“You may recall that on 23rd October, 2024, His Excellency the Executive Governor of Kebbi State, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris has signed into law the new National Minimum Wage and directed its implementation within 72 hours effective from October, 2024 to all categories of Government workers in the State.
“We wish to use this opportunity to draw the attention of the State Government that, the Consequential adjustment due to the newly approved National Minimum Wage is yet to be implemented for the Staff of KSUSTA. Additionally, other lingering allowances yet to be implemented include Earned Academic Allowance (2014 to Date)and 2022 promotion.
“We appreciate our Vice Chancellor Professor (Engr.) B. G. Danshehu for his commitment to addressing staff welfare, however the University Management need to expedite the completion of the 2023 and 2024 promotion exercises.
” We must particularly commend and appreciate His Excellency Comrade. Dr. Nasir Idris for the achievements recorded by KSUSTA under his remarkable leadership and commitment to staff welfare, such as the recent approval and implementation of Salary Consequential adjustment due to 2019 minimum wage,payment of Four (4) years (2020-2024) annual increment, release of One Hundred and Nineteen Million Naira (N119,000,000) for KSUSTA maiden convocation, top-up allowance for security personnel, upward review of the KSUSTA monthly cash allocation, domestication of reviewed University Law, reconstitution of University Governing Council etc.
”In conclusion, we call on the Kebbi State Government to implement the Consequential Salary Adjustment due to the 2024 new minimum wage for the staff of KSUSTA in order to avert any industrial dispute”.
