…charges them with socioeconomic development
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has charged the board members of Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to promote socioeconomic economic development across Nigeria.
The Minister gave the charge during the formal inauguration of the Umar Ganduje-led board on Wednesday in Abuja, and expressed optimism that the wealth of experience eachnof the board members have gathered over the years will foster an environment where aviation sector would thrive.
“As we inaugurate this new board, we carry the weight of expectation that we must continue to foster an environment where aviation can thrive, connect diverse regions, and promote socioeconomic development across our nation.
“The challenges we face are numerous—from infrastructure deficits to the ever-evolving dynamics of global aviation. Yet, I am confident that the wealth of experience and expertise that each of you brings to this board will be instrumental in steering FAAN towards achieving its mission.”
The Minister further charges the board to be meticulous in their approach to governance, show commitment, transparency, and an unwavering dedication in carrying out their activities as enshrined in the Federal Airports Authority Act.
The principle of the FAAN Act includes; Ensuring Safety and Security; Promoting Sustainable Development; Enhancing Passenger Experience; and Fostering collaboration to grow the nation’s aviation economy in line with President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda.
“Let us all reaffirm our commitment to the vision enshrined in the Federal Airports Authority Act. Together, let us work towards elevating the standards of our aviation sector, improving connectivity, fostering economic growth, and ultimately enhancing the quality of life for all Nigerians,” said Keyamo.
Thanking Mr. President, on behalf of members, the immediate past Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Dr Umar Ganduje, assured that the Board would assist in moving the ministry to the next level.
He also said the board members will study the act in order to function harmoniously with necessary stakeholders without exhibiting mediocrity in what it is expected to do.
“Honourable Minister, I assure you, in conjunction with the Executive Management, we will ensure service delivery. Because that is the whole essence of service delivery. And this service delivery is becoming more and more complicated.
“Because there are so many stakeholder institutions, both at the national level and the international level. And we must be conscious of Nigeria as a country that is a leading country in Africa. Therefore, we must exhibit our services to the best international standards.
“We assure you that we will ensure effective institutional governance. Also, we assure you that for effective compliance with regulatory limits. Because this aspect is dynamic as well.”
Similarly, the MD of FAAN, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, in her remarks, reiterates FAAN ‘s commitment to institutional development, adding that all necessary support would be given to the board towards ensuring the a sustainable socioeconomic development of the aviation section in the country.
The new Board members include: Umar Ganduje as the Chairman, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, Managing Director of FAAN, Mrs Dorothy Durauka, Director of International Tourism Relations and Corporation, Mr Ahmed Sulaiman, Director of Air Force Affairs, Engineer Nasiru Muazu, Dr Omozojia Okono, Mrs Bridget Gold, and Engineer Vembe, Director of Aerodrome Development Department Federal Ministry of Aviation.
