Kwara Begins Free Hypertension, Diabetes Screening on Monday Oct. 28

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has launched a free screening excercise for hypertension and diabetes across the 16 Local Government Areas of the State.

ROYAL NEWS gathered that the programme will begin from Monday 28th October.

The one week excercise is another impactful initiative, by the present administration, through Kwara State Ministry of Health, will commence from Monday 28th October to Sunday 3rd November 2024.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina Ahmed El-Imam, stated this on Thursday in her office, during a press briefing.

She disclosed that the screening was in respect to Governor AbdulRazaq’s directive, to provide free medical services for the people of Kwara State, focusing the grassroots in particular.

El-Imam noted that past medical outreaches have significantly improved the health standards of the people across the state, especially those with limited or no access to healthcare facilities.

According to her, “the newly approved free hypertension and diabetes screening exercise is part of the current administration’s commitment, to delivering quality healthcare services to Kwarans at large.” She reaffirmed.

The Commissioner thereafter assured the people that medical experts will be on ground at the screening locations, to offer necessary guidance and affordable treatment options, for likely positive cases detected, during the screening.

“This is an initiative of the Nigeria Health Commissioner’s Forum, aimed at screening 10 million Nigerians, for two of the deadliest non-communicable diseases like hypertension and diabetes, across the 36 states of the federation, including Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. With this intervention, Kwara Project Ten Million’s target, is to reach at least 196,913 Kwara residence, at the end of the exercise

196,913 residence of kwara will be screened free of charge, at their nearest Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) Facilities in all the 193 wards, and in some selected secondary health centers across the 16 LGAs, Including some other selected locations across the State.
