In its efforts at ensuring that all illegal garages and loading points are cleared, the Kwara State Government has harped on compliance to safety of citizens with renewed commitment to enforcing transportation policies in the State.
The Kwara State Ministry of Transportation Taskforce on garages and parks, led by its Chairman, Engr. Mashood Babalola, reaffirmed this today, as the committee continued the enforcement exercise to some areas in Ilorin metropolis.
Addressing the transporters, during the exercise, Engr. Babalola stressed the crucial need for all transporters in Kwara to adhere to the State’s policy on “No More Road-Side Parks/Illegal Loading Points”, adding that, it required collective responsibility of the government and transportation stakeholders to enhance adequate security for citizens.
Meanwhile, the taskforce team has sealed off a transport logistics firm along General Hospital due to failure to provide some necessary documents of operation and non compliance to the abatement notice to report to the Ministry.
He further warned unguided members of transport unions who often flaut government orders to desist, saying such behaviour could pose serious danger to the safety of road users.
The team inspected areas in Ilorin including Unity, Taiwo-Oke/General Hospital through Oja-Oba, Ita-Ajia/ Gambari to Maraba, among other places.
At the Ministry, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alh. Salau Kabir Abdullahi, hailed the team for their fairness and thoroughness.
Salau acknowledged the notable impact of the exercise as roads are now considerably free of gridlocks, urged the team to maintain the momentum in ensuring total compliance.
The State Ministry of transportation remains committed in its effort at maintaining State roads and sustaining social esthetics, while enhancing a healthier transportation system that improves on the socioeconomic well-being of citizens.
