Kwara L-PRES Inspects Water Projects at Lata Grazing Reserve

The Kwara State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) has embarked on an inspection visit to Lata Grazing Reserve, Patigi Local Government Area of the State, to monitor the level of implementation of the water projects at the grazing reserve.

The Projects, which include the construction of two motorized solar powered boreholes with 40,000 liters steel tanks and reticulation to supply watering points, watering troughs for pasture, irrigation and communal use in the grazing reserve, and the repairs of three existing hand-pump boreholes with provision for watering troughs along stock route in the area.

In his remarks, the State Project Coordinator (SPC), Mr. Olusoji Oyawoye said the project is part of the present administration’s strategic moves in developing the livestock sector of the country, creating market linkage, and ensuring a reduction in herder-farmers conflict.

The Coordinator, who was represented by the Project Animal Husbandry Officer, Mr. Habeeb Tunde Affinni explained that the inspection exercise is to ensure that the project implementation is carried out according to specifications and to have first-hand information on the level of work done at the project sites.

He also hinted that planting of trees and pasture seed (bracharia hay) would soon commence, including training of selected pasturalists and extension agents on animal husbandry practices in the area.

The Seriki Fulani of Lata-Nna, Alhaji Mohammed Juli, promised to ensure the sustainability of the project through adequate maintenance and proper protection against vandals in the area.

The team had earlier visited the District Head of Lata-Nna, Alhaji Ahmad Mohamed, to officially inform him about the developmental project in the community and also seek support for a successful implementation of the project in the area.

In his response, the District Head assured the team of his community’s support for the smooth and successful project implementation for the benefit of the people and the development of the town.
