Kwara NUJ holds Ilorin NBA in friendly match to mark 2022 Press week

It was a fight to finish as Kwara NUJ team were held to a barren goalless draw against Ilorin NBA team in a novelty encounter played on Wednesday at the Kwara Footabll Academy Pitch as part of activities to mark 2022 Press week of the Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.

Both teams who Paraded their top stars failed to find the back of the net in the fiftieth minute action packed cracker as all efforts on either side to triumph proved abortive .

Speaking after the match, the Chairman of the NUJ 2022 Press week Committee, Mallam AbdulAzeez Arowona commended both teams for exhibiting the spirit of sportsmanship, noting that the match has achieved the purpose for which it was organized which is to further cement cordial relationship and  friendship between NUJ and other professional bodies in the state.

Arowona who explained that NUJ will continue to partner relevant professionals in it’s programmes and activities however disclosed that, day two of this year’s press week will feature lecture, expected to be delivered by a University don, Professor Lukuman Adeshina AbdulAzeez from University of Ilorin and ground breaking of NUJ mini library on Thursday begining from 10am prompt at Press Centre, Offa Road, Ilorin, while the grand finale /award night holds on Friday at the state Banquet Hall, starting from 6:30pm.

Earlier a member of NBA Football team and Attorney General and commissioner for Justice, Barrister Senior Ibrahim Sulyman rated the officiating of the match as fantastic and commendable, noted that the game was in solidarity with NUJ as part of the programme to celebrate the union’s 2022 Press week.

The Chairman of NBA, Barrister Kamaldeen Gambari expressed satisfaction with the performance of his team and promised to improve on the recreational activities of the association in order to compete favourably with other professionals.

Kwara State SWAN Chairman, Mr Jimoh Bashir praised the leadership of NUJ for embarking on series of laudable programmes, particularly sporting events, adding that apart from improving the healthy living of members, it has provided platform to showcase their skills, practice and demonstrate what they are reporting and writing.
