The Acting Surveyor General of Kwara State, Surv. Haruna Abdullahi, has called on surveyors to harness the power of technology to enhance their work while emphasizing the importance of human skills and collaboration.
He made this call in a keynote address at the Association of Private Practicing Surveyors of Nigeria (APPSN) General Assembly in Ilorin, yesterday.
Abdullahi noted that the world is changing rapidly, presenting both challenges and opportunities for surveyors, highlighting the role of technology in shaping the profession, citing advancements in drones, GPS systems, and software that have increased efficiency and accuracy.
The Ag.Surveyor General expressed gratitude to the Kwara State Government, led by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for providing state-of-the-art equipment to the office of the Surveyor General. The equipment include four CORS stations, drones, differential GPS, laptops, and ortho photos, which have eased the work of surveyors in the State.
Abdullahi also noted that the State has transitioned from over 150 local origins to UTM, making it easier for practitioners to carry out surveys. He encouraged surveyors to explore new technologies and collaborate with each other to shape the future of the profession.
The acting Surveyor General also emphasized the importance of human skills, experience, and ethical responsibility in shaping the world through surveying and wished the conference participants a productive and inspiring experience.
