The Kwara State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina Ahmed El-Imam, has restated the Ministry’s strong commitment to strengthening nutrition outcomes across the state, as she declared open the ANRiN Sustainability Workshop held at the Emergency Operations Center, Ilorin.

Dr. El-Imam praised the unwavering support of the Kwara State Government under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, noting that the administration’s investment in primary healthcare and nutrition programming continues to empower the Ministry to deliver better health outcomes for women, children, and other vulnerable groups.

She emphasized the need to build on the progress achieved under the Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria (ANRiN) programme, calling for deeper collaboration, stronger coordination, and sustained innovation as the state transitions into ANRiN 2.0.

The workshop provided a platform to review successes recorded in ANRiN 1.0, reflect on lessons learned, and refine strategies for improved implementation in the next phase. Participants examined existing approaches to boosting financial allocation for nutrition activities, including MSPAN, the State Committee on Food and Nutrition, and nutrition budget tagging.

Technical presentations during the session highlighted the gains made through the delivery of the Basic Package of Nutrition Services via non-state actors, as well as achievements in nutrition-sensitive antenatal care across selected primary healthcare centres. An overview of the ANRiN 2.0 framework was also presented, with recommendations on strengthening nutrition financing in the state.

The State ANRiN Project Manager, Dr Habib Lawal in his presentation emphasized the importance of the workshop in ensuring the sustainability of nutrition interventions implemented during ANRiN 1.0.

Dr Lawal therefore urged all stakeholders to actively participate and collaborate in the 2.0 project for the benefit of all Kwarans.

The workshop drew participants like the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, directors of various departments, the SPHCDA ANRiN Focal Person, the Chair and members of the State Committee on Food and Nutrition, representatives of the Office of the Accountant General, the Health Planning, Research and Statistics unit, LGA nutrition focal persons, LGA Heads of Department, and programme officers.
