Kwara: Veteran journalist, Tunde Akanbi emerges as Gamji President-General

A veteran journalist and Correspondent of Voice of Nigeria, (VON) in Kwara State, Alhaji Mohammed Tunde Akanbi, has emerged as the new President-General of Gamji Members Association (GAMA), at the just concluded election of the group.

This followed the expiration of the tenure of the Professor Abubakar Laro Ibrahim- led executive, ROYAL NEWS reports.

GAMA is an association whose members are committed to the promotion of ideals and legacies of the late premier of northern Nigeria and late Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello,

Other members of the executives of the association are; Engr Usman Baba Jubril( deputy president general), Alh Abdullahi Yusuf ( director of Administration), Dr Yusuf Manjo ( director of Finance), Barrister H.O Buhari ( Legal adviser), Alh Abdullahi Olesin ( director of publicity) and Prof Abubakar Laro Ibrahim ( Ex- officio).

In his acceptance speech, the new president general of GAMA, Alh Mohammed Tunde Akanbi, thanked the members of the association for the confidence reposed in him and for ensuring a smooth transition from the immediate past executives to the new executives.

Akanbi who pledged to justify the confidence reposed in him rolled out a 9- point agenda that will be vigorously pursued by his administration.

Some of the 9- point agenda include synergy with Kwara State government under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to restore the lost glory of Kwara among the committee of states; and ensuring that it occupies its rightful place in the northern Nigeria.

Others include implementation of deliberate policies geared towards uniting members of GAMA, creative initiatives designed to promote and sustain enduring leadership vision and qualities of late Sardauna and attract key northern elders, leaders and Gamjites from across the country to Ilorin, Kwara State.

Akanbi used the opportunity to congratulate the Executive Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on his well deserved re- election for a second term of office, assuring him of the continued support of GAMA.

In his remarks, the immediate past president general of the association, Prof Abubakar Ibrahim thanked members of the association for the opportunity given him to run the affairs of the union for over a decade and assured the new executives of his maximum support.

In their separate remarks, two leaders of GAMA, Dr Mohammed Ghali Alaaya and Alh Saadu Salahu, congratulated the new executives on their election and praised the outgone executives for their selfless services to the union.

Alaaya and Salahu, however, charged the new executives to hit the ground running with the implementation of innovative and creative activities that will further promote the leadership ideals and vision of the late sage , Sardauna of Sokoto , Sir Ahmadu Bello .
