The General Manager of the Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA), Hon. Jide Aina, today paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Ilorin, to foster collaborative partnership, aimed at ensuring a clean, safe, and conducive learning environment across all tertiary institutions in the State.

During the visit, Hon. Aina emphasized the importance of sustainable environmental practices in both public and private higher institutions and noted that going forward, all new tertiary institutions in Kwara State will be required to obtain environmental permits as a prerequisite for final operational approval.

The KWEPA boss further urged tertiary institutions to take proactive steps in maintaining proper sanitation and hygiene. This includes effective waste management, regular fumigation, clearing of overgrown vegetation, and timely evacuation of filled soakaways. He stressed that the measures are essential for promoting health, safety, and academic productivity within campuses. Institutions that fail to comply, he warned, would face appropriate sanctions.

In her response, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hajia Madibo Kawu, expressed appreciation for the visit and lauded Hon. Aina for his competence, dedication, and commitment to upholding KWEPA’s mandate. She assured the General Manager of the Ministry’s full cooperation and support in raising environmental standards across tertiary institutions in the State.

Both parties agreed that the visit signals the beginning of a stronger working relationship between the Ministry and KWEPA, one that is expected to set a benchmark for cleaner, healthier, and more conducive academic environments across Kwara State.
