Labour Party Faction Gives Peter Obi 48-Hour Ultimatum to Resign

Date:

The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to former presidential candidate Peter Obi, asking him to formally resign from the party following his alignment with a new political coalition.

In a statement released on Thursday by the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, the group expressed strong opposition to the coalition, describing it as a gathering of “recycled, desperate, and frustrated politicians.”

Ifoh stated that the Labour Party under Abure’s leadership is not part of the coalition and warned that members associating with it should resign immediately or face disciplinary actions.

“We are aware of several nocturnal meetings between Peter Obi and some of our members, lobbying them to join him in his new party,” Ifoh said. “A number of them have refused to defect, and we commend their loyalty.”

The statement accused Obi and the coalition of misleading the public with the slogan “A New Nigeria is Possible,” arguing that such change cannot come from politicians who previously mismanaged the country.

Labour Party leaders in the faction stressed that individuals trying to operate under dual allegiances—maintaining ties to both the Labour Party and the coalition—will no longer be tolerated.

“Labour Party is not available for people with dual agendas, people with deceptive personas,” the statement read. “You cannot be in the party in the morning and in the coalition in the evening.”

According to Ifoh, the party remains committed to leading Nigeria’s youth-driven political revolution and warned against being swayed by those trying to regain influence.

The faction urged members to remain loyal to the party’s structures ahead of future elections, emphasizing that only the Labour Party can deliver the vision of a truly new Nigeria.
