Mr Samson Dikko, member representing Jaba constituency at the Kaduna State House of Assembly, in partnership with When In Need Foundation, an NGO, has donated food items and medicines to displaced victims of recent attacks in Southern Kaduna.
Presenting the items on Thursday at the IDP camp in Zonkwa, Zango Kataf Local Government Area, Dikko said the gesture was borne out of his love for humanity.
“As a humble servant of God, it is my duty to be my brother’s keeper, because as you know, an injury to one is an injury to all.
“So, I decided to partner with When In Need Foundation, for us to use our limited resources to touch the lives of the downtrodden in our midst,” he said
The lawmaker commended those managing the facility for the sacrifices they had been making to cater for the IDPs in their period of need.
The lawmaker said he would continue to work with his colleagues from the zone to ensure ongoing efforts to bring about peace come to fruition.
In her remarks, Dr Chetachi Dikko, the CEO of When In Need Foundation, stated that the struggles of her people at home informed her decision to move back to Nigeria from the diaspora to help out.
“What brought me back to Nigeria actually is the struggles the people of Southern Kaduna have been going through over the years.
“When I heard of what happened, I just felt I needed to come down to see how I can be of help to the people because this is my passion.
“There is nothing left in my life now than what I am doing for humanity. This is the path God has chosen for me and I will continue on this path for the rest of my time here on earth,” she added.
She pledged the NGO’s continous support to the plight of IDPs in Southern Kaduna while praying for lasting peaceful co-existence.
“I have already asked for a list of other things that these people may need to reduce their hardship here.
“God says whatever you do for mine, you are doing for me. So, be rest assured we will continue to work with you to put smiles on your faces,” she said.
She called on other well meaning individuals and organisations to come to the aid of the displaced victims of attacks in the area.
Receiving the items, the Camp Coordinator, Rev. Gambo Waziri, thanked the lawmaker and the NGO for reaching out to them and assured them of the judicious use of the donated items.
Waziri said the facility was set up on July 11 to cater for displaced persons from over 13 communities, adding that it had not been easy taking care of the IDPs.
According to him, the camp had so far purchased over 960 bags of cement and zincs to help the victims rebuild their homes.
ROYAL NEWS reports that the items donated included bags of beans, noodles, tubers of yam and medical supplies among others.
